I am a Junior. How do I become a participant?
First, complete the Junior Application. Include your parent/guardian and school administrator signatures within the stated timeframe.
I am a Senior. How do I become a participant?
You must successfully complete the Junior Leaders program, commit to becoming actively involved during your senior year in high school, and complete the Senior Application.
Individual requests are considered if you have not participated in the Junior Leaders Program.
20/20 Leadership Curriculum
Education
• College Preparation – college visits and College Expo (50+ meet with students)
• Personal Finance and Budgeting – partner with Federal Reserve Bank
• Metro Art Tour – Gastinger Walker Harden Architecture firm provides leadership
• Understanding the Law -- The Honorable Victor C. Howard, Missouri Court of Appeals and Dan Crabtree of Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP
Personal Development
• Personal and Professional Skills—True Colors (etiquette/presentation/personality types)
• Personal Choice (discussions with prisoners—10 years to life sentence; and individuals
Workforce Development
• Business and Career Expo—Students meet with more than 50 businesses to learn about types of jobs and skills necessary to become future employees/discuss fields of study and
participate in mock interviews
• Entrepreneurship—students meet with 20/20 alumni and business owners
• Economics – Board of Trade
• Workforce Readiness—resumes / interviews / business cards / time management / appropriate dress / behavior
Community
• Local and state government—students travel to Jefferson City and Topeka to meet with
elected officials representing student districts; students also meet with mayor, council
members and commissioners
• Community and Cultural Awareness—students meet with community leaders/organizations
• Social Services—students meet with nonprofit organizations within their own communities
20/20 Olympics
By matching students with businesses, they are challenged to work as a team; identify projects;
and develop business and marketing plans to impact change. This is a competitive process and
judging is provided by foundation and community leaders. Winners receive: Gold $500; Silver
$250; and Bronze $100.
In 2011, students from F.L. Schlagle were awarded a $25,000 grant from the Kansas Health
Foundation to develop www.kcteenlink.org. Additional information will be forthcoming.
